Eine der schwersten Geburten unter unseren Eigenkompositionen und gleichzeitig der Song, bei dem nicht klar ist, wer ihn eigentlich zu verantworten hat. Die Akkordfolgen zu Same Old Story waren schon 2012 recht schnell klar und machten einen vielversprechenden Eindruck. Mangels Textzeilen versuchte David am Anfang auf “Na na na” eine Melodie zu finden, die am Ende dann doch wieder ganz anders wurde. Nach den ersten Textideen begann der schwierige Kampf um den Sinn des Liedes, der erst zweieinhalb Jahre später, kurz vor der Aufnahme für’s Album endgültig entschieden war.
Nach etlichen Versionen steht nun hier eine Geschichte von einem Unterdrückten, der in seiner Beziehung ziemlich rücksichtslos ausgenutzt wird. Doch alle Beschwerden helfen nicht, am Ende nimmt er sein Schicksal selbst in die Hand. Die Melodie zum (mittlerweile fast jugendfreien) Text im Interlude verdanken wir übrigens einer kreativen Zusammenkunft von Alex und Toni, die zum Glück tontechnisch festgehalten wurde…
